Dr. Yoonkyung Kim Cash began studying piano at the age of five. Kim won the 3rd place prize from the Incheon Young Artist Piano Competition when she was eight.
Kim performed in numerous recitals in Europe, America, Canada and South Korea. In 1998, she was selected to perform with the Rinnai Concert Band at the SeJong Cultural Center, one of the largest concert halls in Seoul, South Korea. In the winter of 2001, Kim performed with the Romania Brasov Orchestra in Military Circle Hall in Romania.
In addition to her love for solo classical repertoire, Kim has also performed as an accompanist in a variety of settings. She has collaborated with instrumentalists, vocalists, and has been a church accompanist for over 25 years.
Over the years of teaching and performing piano, Kim has solidified her pedagogical philosophy. Dr. William Westney’s internationally acclaimed Un-Master Class approaches to problem-solving, communication, and creativity all ring true to Dr. Cash’s teaching philosophy. She has a big passion for teaching and strongly believes that teachers’ passion and philosophy affect all young musicians’ current and future lives. Her main goal is to use the highest care and love to pass on what she has learned through over 20 years of teaching privately as well as college level classroom teaching. Dr. Cash served as piano instructor and accompanist at McPherson College.
In 2020, Dr. Cash with her husband made the exciting decision to leave Kansas and begin a new chapter together in Incheon, South Korea, where they founded the Dr. Piano Academy. It was a wonderful adventure—where they had the opportunity to touch many lives through teaching masterclasses, adjudicating, and coaching competition participants.
Dr. Cash currently co-owns the Dr. Cash Piano Academy in Frisco, TX. It’s been a joy to build this musical journey together!
